Wei Jia is a semi-finalist of the Redress Design Award 2020. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Fashion Design and Accessories at Tianjin University of Science and Technology, and recently graduated from Bunka Fashion Graduate University in Tokyo with a Master’s Degree in Fashion Design.

redress Design Award Collection

For his Redress Design Award collection, TOYS, Jia takes inspiration from all sorts of self-assembly toys, emulating a ‘build-yourself’ approach through his collection where the wearer can assemble the garments according to their preference, with  zippers and buttons enabling shifts in silhouettes. Jia incorporates a variety of textile waste including textile swatches, secondhand clothing and end-of-rolls through up-cycling and reconstruction design techniques.
