Bio
Yeseul Kim is a semi-finalist of the Redress Design Award 2020. She is currently pursuing a BA (Hons) in Fashion Design at the Management Development Institute of Singapore from Nottingham Trent University, UK.
“Environmental issues in the fashion industry are rooted in the manufacturing processes and overproduction, and as many people begin to recognise these issues, interest in purchasing sustainable clothing products has been increasing. We must create a new business model in response to the demands of consumers to protect the environment”. - Yeseul Kim
redress Design Award Collection
For her Redress Design Award collection, Imagination to Escape, Yeseul began by exploring the cultural values in Mu, a historical religious culture in Korea, identifying ways to apply these traditions and aesthetics to modern menswear. She uses fabrics extracted from vintage Hanboks - traditional Korean formal dress - which she reconstructs into a timeless collection with the purpose to inspire joy and passion among fashion-forward, modern men while celebrating the history of Korean art.
