Redress Design Award 2021 Semi-FINALIST
Bio
Berivan is a semi-finalist of the Redress Design Award 2021. She is currently pursuing a BA in Fashion at University of Hertfordshire, UK.
“I want to be a sustainable fashion designer to limit the danger the fashion industry creates for our world. Making a functional garment out of unexpected products brings me excitement and hope that everything can be repurposed to have a new life.” - Berivan Tomay
redress Design Award Collection
Berivan’s Redress Design Award collection, ‘Eco-War’ takes inspiration from the utilitarian aesthetic of superheroes and military figures to awaken audiences into taking action in the battle to protect our planet. Berivan draws references from war veterans' prosthetics which symbolise the conversion of disadvantage into finding new purpose, with the use of upcycling and reconstruction techniques to transform a variety of sourced waste fabrics. She selects durable and crease-free materials that require little energy usage through consumer care and garments are designed with mono-fibres and for easy disassembly for end-of-life processing.
