Bio
Nawoda Bandara is a semi-finalist of the Redress Design Award 2021. She is currently pursuing a BA in Fashion and Textile from Northumbria University Newcastle, Sri Lanka.

redress Design Award Collection
Nawoda draws inspiration from military attire from the first and second World Wars in a for her Redress Design Award collection ‘Nuul’21’ - a commentary on the environmental war we are facing for future generations She accents the collection with the colour palette of the monarch butterfly, a species that is affected by climate change. Nawoda reconstructs secondhand clothing and upcycles a wide variety of damaged and surplus textiles, yarns and unwanted items including old umbrellas, bags some of which she transforms through natural dying and handloom weaving.
