Xia Mingwei is a semi-finalist of Redress Design Award 2021. He holds a BA in Apparel and Fashion Design from Xi’An Polytechnic University and is currently pursuing an MA in Innovation Fashion Production from University of Art London, UK.

redress Design Award Collection

For Mingwei’s Redress Design Award 2021 collection, ‘Flying Plan’, he was inspired by the extreme sport of wingsuit flying and the age-old human fantasy of conquering the sky. Using the structure and functionality of the wingsuit as his research base, he creates functional garments that accommodate multiple body sizes. His collection upcycles weather resistant fabrics such as flight suits and parachutes, along with secondhand sports clothing.
