Ray Yang Chen Jui is a Semi-finalist of the Redress Design Award 2023. He holds a degree in Creative Knitwear Design from the Accademia Costume & Moda, Italy.

redress Design Award Collection

Ray’s Redress Design Award collection, ‘Starting from a leaf’, draws inspiration from fallen leaves, paralleling the fallen scraps of textile waste in garment factories, where he sources his fabrics. Ray uses zero-waste cutting and a zig-zag sewing technique to wrinkle the upcycled fabrics with 3D textures, and designs separate pieces within garments such as a removable lining in a bucket hat to reduce washing. With seven types of high-quality, recyclable waste textiles, his collection highlights the importance of paying more attention to overproduction and its waste.
