Ruan Zheyi is a Semi-finalist of the Redress Design Award 2024. She holds a Bachelor of Design (Hons) in Fashion from Massey University, New Zealand.

redress Design Award Collection

Zheyi’s Redress Design Award collection, ‘Odyssey’, is named for the designer’s journey in exploring sustainable solutions, reflected in the paisley textile patterns which symbolise life and eternity in Zoroastrian faith. The collection is made with quilting, felting, and mending techniques that add layers and textures to end-of-rolls, sampling yardage, and unsold clothing waste, including vintage scarves and a Japanese obi belt. Zero-waste patterning is also used to make a dress and trims, and a dyed linen table doily is used to create sleeves.
