The Made for Change Challenge - Redress Design Award 2019 finalists meet VF Corp. experts for ideas exchange

We are celebrating a second year of partnership with VF Corporation for the Redress Design Award, bringing together emerging designers and key industry experts to provide invaluable learning experiences and highlight best practice sustainability leadership in the fashion industry.

In August 2019 during the Grand Final week, VF Corporation, the worldwide apparel and footwear company with more than 30 brands including The North Face, Vans and Timberland, invited the Redress Design Award 2019 finalists into their headquarters in Hong Kong, where they took part in the educational ‘Made for Change’ challenge. Splitting into teams of two, the finalists were asked to improve the circularity of an existing iconic and high-impact VF product by proposing a product plan. VF’s experts gave invaluable insight into responsible sourcing and material innovation to the finalists, followed by an interactive end-to-end business process together with experts in design and product development, environmental and sustainable materials, merchandising, supply chain, sales and marketing.

The winning team of two finalists, Canadian designer Abby Gaskin and Natalie Tzur of Israel, were rewarded with an educational cash prize of US$1,000 each and are currently participating in a tailor-made six-month mentorship programme with VF Corporation experts.

For 2020, Redress will again be co-creating a challenge with VF this August for the 2020 finalists. In addition we are thrilled to have VF as our first ever Menswear category prize sponsor. Our Menswear winner will receive a career-changing mentorship programme with VF and a professional development fund of HK$20,000. He or she will gain exciting and educational insights from across the supply chain, from sourcing to product development, while deepening his or her skills and understanding around sustainable production and marketing.
