Supporting our work to bring more sustainable education to future fashion professionals, this July we held the Redress Design Award Educator Workshops, bringing together educators and industry professionals from Hong Kong, Mainland China, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka, UK and USA to share experiences and get inspired to continue their journey in developing sustainability in the curriculum.

Hosted at Banyan Workspace – an international session was hosted in English with participants joining both physically and virtually,  and a subsequent virtual workshop was held in Mandarin. “The workshops were an excellent opportunity to catch up with the latest updates from our educators’ community and exchange with them on how to advance the sustainability agenda in higher education. Together we worked on new ideas that have great potential to complement our exciting Redress educator tools and resources.” shared Redress’ Education Director Morgane Parizot.

At the international workshop, Lisa Hayes from Drexel University and Manuela Catania from VISIONUPIA Sustainable Design at University of Saint Joseph shared their experiences and examples of how responsible design thinking carries across their curriculums. Mariel Jumpa from Common Objective also shared valuable knowledge on the future skills of fashion designers, how creatives can take a step forward toward a mindset of circularity and how the power of community can drive sustainable fashion forward.

For the Mandarin session, we were joined by Adela Tan from VF Corp, who shared inspiring company updates on innovation and goals that underpinned our collective goal of nurturing the next generation professionals in areas of circularity and sustainability. Chuan Fan from Ellen MacArthur Foundation also shared news of their new Chinese circularity resources, which will help to accelerate the integration of sustainability in the fashion curriculum in Chinese higher education institutions.
