Redress Design Award Alumna Grace Lant Reinvents Iconic Kipling Bag ‘Art M’

Versatile design uses deadstock fabrics to reduce carbon footprint

Redress congratulates our 2021 Alumni Prize Winner, Grace Lant, on her newly-launched sustainable take on Kipling’s iconic ART M bag. Partnering with the global bag and accessories brand, Grace created her design using deadstock fabrics from Kipling’s parent company VF Corporation – a technique that has become her “favourite way to work”.

The resulting bag, launched this March in celebration of International Womens’ Day, is a versatile and modular bag for everyday use with a sustainable approach to textile. It includes a dual function front pocket and cross-bag feature, laptop sleeve and compartmental divider, increasing its utility for consumers to enjoy for years to come. Grace’s signature knit design features neutral colour palettes in a nod to iconic Hong Kong landscapes.

Grace’s upcycling technique reduces textile waste and works towards building a circular fashion economy, an ethos fundamental to the Redress Design Award.

Previous finalists and semi-finalists like Grace are part of the Redress Alumni Network, which provides support such as exclusive retail collaborations, textile waste sourcing and other professional opportunities to empower fashion change-makers.
