Arrival and shooting of finalist collections in anticipation of Grand Final
The road to the Redress Design Award Grand Final culminates in September, but it starts months before, in the sewing rooms and studios of the designers across the globe who impress the judges and become finalists.
Each talented finalist must work hard to create their collection for the Grand Final Fashion Presentation; they are given only nine weeks for preparation and careful construction of the unique pieces. Once the the garments are ready to make their way to Hong Kong for our magazine photoshoot and runway debut, Redress trusts UPS’ carbon-neutral shipping option to safely transport the one-of-a-kind collections from all over the world — Brazil, Chile, India, Italy, Spain, Sri Lanka — into our hands and one step closer to the spotlight.
We are excited to soon share with you the finalists’ innovative use of sustainable and circular design techniques, captured in an editorial photoshoot to be released in our magazine at the show and in the October 2022 sustainability edition of Vogue Hong Kong.
Titled ‘Repackaged’, the photoshoot is styled by leading local creatives including KMS and Hong Kong Makeup Artist, and inspired by the raw aesthetics of paper and cardboard industrial packaging. With refreshments provided by our partner PizzaExpress, our producers were well energised to reflect the competition’s creative legacy of revaluing waste in the shoot, spotlighting the forward-thinking designers’ endeavours to tackle and transform waste from a variety of sources, including hotel laundries and family closets.
Next, the finalists will continue their educational journey in the upcoming Grand Final Week through practical design challenges and masterclasses, such as the ‘Meet the Experts: Closing the loop with fibre regeneration’ masterclass with Lenzing’s Tencel™ and ‘A Discussion on Manufacturing’ with TAL Apparel and Browzwear, to set them up for flourishing careers in sustainable fashion.

JOIN US FOR THE FINALISTS AND ALUMNI EXHIBITION
In addition to the runway show, the international finalists’ collections will also be on display alongside exciting emerging sustainable brands from competition alumni. The exhibition will be held at ArtisTree from 9–16 September with doors open from 11am–7pm. Come see up close how the designers transform textile waste into high fashion and virtually try on the outfits with AR filters!
