Redress Design Award 2018 Semi-FINALIST
Bio
Debaditya Das Barman’s homegrown ‘slow’ clothing label LIKE POEMS takes an experimental approach to knitwear design. LIKE POEMS creates hand-made flat knit sweaters using natural fibres and Cut-n-Sew collections which seamlessly integrate zero-waste and upcycling techniques.
Debaditya, a semi-finalist in the Redress Design Award 2018 and an alumni of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Kolkata, presented his brand at SS23 Shenzhen Fashion Week as part of the Redress Alumni showcase, demonstrating his ability to blend ethical fashion with contemporary design on a global stage.
I consider sustainable fashion to be where all creators of a garment (including mother earth) get justice at every level. I wanted to be a sustainable designer, simply because I couldn’t possibly imagine creating things in any other way. I strongly believe that no greater good can be attained by harming anything, anyone or the planet. - Debaditya Das Barman
redress Design Award Collection
For his Redress Design Award submission, Debaditya draws inspiration from the victims of war and mass murders in modern times. Taking a stand against the too often witnessed violations of humanity. He up-cycles swatches, cut-and-sew waste, end-of-rolls and damaged textiles sourced from a fashion manufacturer.
