Violet Ma is a Rising Talent of the Redress Design Award 2024. She graduated from Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts, China and Nottingham Trent University, UK.

“I hope to exemplify the possibilities of modular design for extending the life of clothing.” – Violet Ma

For her Redress Design Award collection ‘URBAN COMMUTER’, Violet was inspired by modern travel, creating a multi-functional, detachable wardrobe for men on short trips. She sources from waste such as discarded tents including their drawstrings, deadstock from Dries Van Noten and Paul Smith, and reusable zippers from old clothes. Her designs include detachable parts such as a splittable jacket and removable pockets, allowing wearers versatility to mix and match combinations according to their needs.

As part of the Rising Talents programme, Violet was mentored by Joanna Ctuzkowna, CEO and Doctoral Researcher in Circular Economy, 5Thread; and Redress alum Wen Pan, Fashion Designer, Wen Pan Studio.
