Katie holds a MA in Fashion Knitwear from Central Saint Martins, and has previously interned for John Galliano, Diane Von Furstenberg, and Mark Fast. Katie also set up Save Our Skills (SOS), a new London-based project to instil passion and skill in the next generation, and encourage a sustainable attitude towards fashion and textiles.
All Fashion needs to become sustainable and realise ways to lower waste, we need to amend people's view on disposability and endorse craftsmanship making people value their clothes. I love that being a sustainable designer challenges you to think of new clever ways in how to execute your design. I developed my 'make do and mend' ethos from my Grandmother and employ a 'waste not want not' attitude within my work. Recrafting garments means Iām able to produce handmade pieces with embellishments that hold my brand aesthetic but reduce the labour time to make the garments at a marketable cost. - Katie Jones
redress Design Award collection
For her Redress Design Award (formerly the EcoChic Design Award)collection application, she was inspired by an imagined journey along the Silk Road across from India to China. Focusing on adornment looking at the highly decorated Indian trucks and the rich mix of different Chinese traditional regional dresses. The collection would have adopted the up-cycling, zero-waste and reconstruction design techniques, recrafting secondhand Aran Jumpers and leather skirts along with yarn surplus to produce a richly handcrafted and embellished bold colour blocked collection.
