Rewarding Talents

First Prize

The runway champion will receive an exclusive opportunity to collaborate with VF’s Timberland team on a design project. They will have the opportunity to work with the VF Corporation Sustainability & Responsibility team, gaining insight into sustainable production and marketing strategies in a supply chain. Additionally, the winner will receive a development fund of HK$50,000, two high-performance machines from JUKI and a one-year individual access to Bloomsbury Fashion Central, the Fairchild Books Library and the Fashion Photography Archive.

 

Runner-up Prize

The runner-up will receive a tailored mentorship with distinguished sustainable fashion designer and competition judge, Orsola de Castro. As one of the most influential figures in sustainable fashion, Orsola has nurtured many of the pioneering names in sustainable fashion from their early designs through to their established brands. This winner will also receive a development fund of HK$15,000, a high-performance machine from JUKI, and 10 digital books from Bloomsbury’s Basics Fashion Design series.

 

Hong Kong Best Prize

Recognising a leading emerging talent in Redress’ home city, this award goes to the highest scoring designer in Hong Kong, who will receive a development fund of HK$15,000, a high-performance sewing machine from JUKI, and a digital copy of the Bloomsbury book Stories of Fashion, Textiles and Place: Evolving Sustainable Supply Chains by Leslie Davis Burns and Jeanne Carver. This year’s awardee is Patrick Lam.

 

People’s Choice

Cris Miranda is this year’s awardee — the designer who impressed the global public in an online vote to outshine the other 29 semi-finalists and was fast-tracked to the Grand Final. Cris received a JUKI overlock sewing machine and a digital copy of the Bloomsbury book Stories of Fashion, Textiles and Place: Evolving Sustainable Supply Chains by Leslie Davis Burns and Jeanne Carver.

 

All Finalists

All finalists had their designs shot in Hong Kong by a renowned photographer, The Buffacow, styled by Kieran Ho, and showcased in an exhibition, and featured in Vogue Hong Kong aft

er the Grand Final. Finalists will also receive a mini-mentorship with a sustainable fashion expert to help nurture their future career development, as well as two months’ access to the Browzwear VStitcher software and online university, six-month subscription to Bloomsbury’s online portal, the Berg Fashion Library, and a digital copy of the Bloomsbury title, Global Perspectives on Sustainable Fashion by Alison Gwilt, Alice Payne, and Evelise Anicet Ruthschilling.

 

Alumni Prizes

Each cycle of the Redress Design Award we continue to support our alumni, our previous semi-final and final competitors, with prizes through partnerships with like-minded organisations to enhance their careers in sustainable fashion. 

This year, one alumni winner will receive an overlock sewing machine from JUKI. Two alumni will receive a 12-month professional membership to Common Objective, providing them with access to premium intelligence and industry connections in sustainable fashion. Three alumni will receive one-year licences for VStitcher software and access to the Browzwear online university, enabling them to build their digital sampling skills. 

Hong Kong’s Louise Lau and Eric Wong have also been supported by Lenzing Group with Refibra™ technology low-impact textiles as part of their collections that feature in the Redress Design Award Alumni Showcase.

 

Rising Talents

This year we introduced a new Rising Talents programme, offering sustainability enrichment experience to four talented designers who were not selected as semi-finalists but nevertheless demonstrated exceptional potential in their applications. After a period of intensive mentoring and pitching, Giovanni Zocchetta was selected to receive a 12-month professional membership from prize partner Common Objective. To support our local talent, Hong Kong Rising Talent Natalie Wan also received a sewing machine from JUKI

All participants receive a selection of digital fashion books from Bloomsbury Publishing: A Practical Guide to Sustainable Fashion by Alison Gwilt, Designing Fashion’s Future: Present Practice and Tactics for Sustainable Change by Alice Payne, and Fashion Design: The Complete Guide, by John Hopkins.
