Philippines designer Candle Ray Torreverde won third place runner-up for the EcoChic Design Award 2017 impressing the judges with his up-cycled and reconstructed collection. His prize is 10 books from the Fairchild Books Basics Fashion Design Series and a JUKI overlock sewing machine.

Inspired by the chaos brought about by sea storms, Candle applied the design techniques of up-cycling and reconstruction along with the use of natural dyes to transform secondhand textiles and clothes.

All 10 EcoChic Design Award finalists will receive a 2 hour mentorship with a sustainable fashion expert to nurture their future career development, a 12-month membership to the Common Objective (CO) platform and will receive a Seven Continents mannequin upholstered with surplus textiles.
