Waste transformed

From Hong Kong straight to Manila, our 2017 finalist Candle Ray Torreverde first impressed the Redress Design Award judges to gain third place in the competition with his up-cycled and reconstructed collection before hot-footing it back to the Philippines to put the finishing touches on his latest S/S 2018 collection for namesake brand Candle Ray which he presented at Manila Fashion Festival Beyond in October.

Candle continues to express his creativity through the medium of textile waste in both mens and womenswear and this collection was reconstructed and up-cycled from various sources of textile waste, including old school uniforms, end of rolls and cut and sew waste. Mega Style PH reviewed, “Candle Ray reimagines and deconstructs cocktail dressing, leaving only hints of its inherent formal decadence as the tailored pieces are wholly transformed into elegant street wear.”
