Xiang Yubei is a Rising Talent of the Redress Design Award 2024. She is studying fashion design at Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti (NABA) in Milan, Italy, and previously studied at the Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts (SIVA).

For her Redress Design Award collection ‘One’s life ·Two people ·Three meals · Four seasons’, Yubei was influenced by Vincent van Gogh and Taylor Swift, translating their style and artistry into plastic tube fabrics. Inspired also by her grandparents’ long-distance relationship involving sending letters with perennial hydrangea petals, Yubei reconstructed her grandmother’s old wedding dress, cutting it into 600 fabric petals and redesigning it with plant-dyed veils and resin printing. Through this transformation of unwanted clothing, she hopes to illustrate a beautiful story of love with each look.

As part of the Rising Talents programme, Yubei was mentored by Chen Liang, Co-founder, dejaWOOO; and Redress alum Candle Ray Torreverde, Founder and Designer, CANDLE RAY.
