Bio

Federico Badini Confalonieri is the winner of the Redress Design Award 2022. Creating his brand shortly after, BADINI C., which launched their FW22 collection of menswear with their core intentions of solving and challenging contemporary environmental and social issues to propose an optimistic vision for the future. It played with referencing historical archetypes such as the sportswear of the Gabber ‘90s subculture and the luxury Victorian children’s wear decorations to propose a new vision on masculinity. All the garments were made from recycled or organic fibres locally sourced within Europe, to ensure the whole design and production process is interwoven with sustainability. He holds an MA in Fashion Design – Menswear from the London College of Fashion and BA in Knitwear Design from Polytechnic University of Milan.

Redress Design Award Collection

Federico’s Redress Design Award collection, ‘Micro – Rain’, uses zero-waste techniques to upcycle waste fabrics from his previous collections, and draws attention to the problem of microplastics in the fashion industry, with garments made with synthetic fabrics that have an incorporated filter fabric to retain pollution during washing. Federico challenges the zero-waste concept by creating a “waste negative” garment: the zero-waste puffer jacket is filled with the collection of offcuts to reuse the waste created by other garments.

Dance for the planet

Redress Design Award Collection 2021

Federico’s Redress Design Award collection, ‘Dance for the planet’, is a nod to the electronic dance music movement of the 1990s and the hopes and dreams of this youth movement in which he sees likeness in attitude to the current young generation fighting for change in the midst of a climate emergency. Federico uses textile created from waste, such as recycled yarns in his collection. He also highlights the importance of tackling micro-plastic pollution through the integration of a guppyfriend washing bag to a nylon coat.
