Miia’s Redress Design Award collection, ‘Rainscape’, is inspired by her thesis on the possibilities of umbrella material in wearable design products. The collection uses discarded umbrella fabrics, factory surplus textiles, and unwanted wadding from the furniture industry, with patterns made by draping to eliminate cutting waste. Miia’s zero-waste patterns are inspired by the triangular shape of umbrellas and are designed to be easily replicated as well as adaptable for use with other fabrics.
