For his Redress Design Award collection ‘12 layers of Elegance’, Caelan was inspired by the natural beauty of Japanese nobility in the Heian era, who would wear up to 12 layers of kimono to show their status. His versatile designs include gloves that can turn into a bottle, jackets that can transform into a bag or chess plate, and a top that can become a drawer with a mirror. Secondhand textiles are sourced from local fabric stores, and flower embellishments made from fabric scraps elevate the designs.
